The figure describes the profit, in billions of dollars, of several types of digital games sold worldwide from 2000 to 2006. Overall, it is evident that the sales of some types of games have increased within the aforementioned period, while the opposite has happened to some other kinds of games. It is clear that most sales are related to handheld games. This type of game has experienced a marked increased of sales, passing from 11 billions of dollars in 2000 to 18 billions in 2006. Online and mobile phone game sales have also experienced a similar although less robust improvement, going from one billion of dollars in 2002 to around 7 billions in 2006. This phenomenon might reflect the growing use of technology and electronic devices around the world in the last few years. On the other hand, the situation has been different for console game sales. This kind of game has reported a decrease in its sales, passing from 6 billions of dollars in 2000, to 3 billions in 2006. This accounts for a 50% reduction within the observed period of time, which could be related to the fact that nowdays, people prefer to buy their games online.

Although health professionals, educators, and parents have initiated a global movement to address bullying, it is still a prevalent situation in modern schools accross the globe. A better understanding of the causes of bullying is necessary to develop effective and sustainable solutions to this problem. Believe it or not, many factors that promote bullying are usually found at home. For example, family dysfunction might foster an unhealthy environment among children, which could affect their mental health thus triggering bullying at school. Moreover, children may imitate negative role models that they watch at home if their screen time is unsupervised. Unfortunately, this situation is frequent in developed nations since parents are usually focused on work-related tasks. Additionally, there is a lack of awareness about the causes of bullying and, more concerning, its consequences. This absence of information is aggravated by the lack of a system that punishes bullying. As mentioned before, if the causes of bullying are correctly identified, it is possible to create initiatives to tackle the situation. A robust education program for parents and their children could help them develop awareness about the potentially fatal consequences of bullying. Additionally, the creation of an effective survaillance system combined with a severe punishment system could also discourage children to engage in bullying. On the other hand, a school-based program to promote healthy relationships at home could improve the mental health of children, which combined with a better monitoring of their screen time might decrease the odds of bullying. In conclusion, several factors such as family dysfunction, unhealthy relationships, and lack of education promote bullying. Initiatives to address this problem should take into consideration these factors to ensure effective and sustainable strategies that will reduce the prevalence of bullying worldwide.
