The chart below shows the total number of Olympic medals won by twelve different countries.

Write a report for a university, lecturer describing the information shown below.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the Olympic medals won being received by twelve participated countries dividing into three different categories namely; gold, silver, and bronze. Overall, the USA are dominate the highest place by both overall medals and by each category, followed by Soviet Union and the UK. Interestingly, some EU countries are also placed on the top ranks in total number of medals, while, in Asian countries, Japan and China takes seats in the lower places, compare to others. To begin with, the USA have acquired the highest total number of over 2,000 medals which most of them are gold medals, with almost 1,000 medals, while Soviet Union who ranked second with approximately 1,000 total medals gained about one half of USA's gold medals, with about 400 gold medals. While other countries in EU have similar number of total medals ranged between more than 400 medals to nearly 1,000 medals. The lowest place of overall medals belongs to Japan, and followed by China. Both of them won bronze medals at so close number, however, China seems to gain more gold medals than Japan contrasting with bronze medals in which Japan receive more.

Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children.

Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.

It can be seen that there is an increase in debate of teaching methodology regarding to whether school teachers should give homework to children since this matter is beneficial for academic improvement, or whether there are other effective ways for those children to spend time after class. In my opinion, I truly believe that although homework plays crucial role on learning progression, there are some appropriate ways to manage school works with other activities to help shape kids with both knowledge and relaxation at the same time. Homework is an important tool in order to help children to remind things what they have learnt, improve their specific skills, and prepare themselves for the coming exams. With every day’s homework, children can remind the lesson that they learn in each day and allow them to be master with more practical times. Since short period of each subject at school cannot put them to remember all things, assigning work after class will help them to build cognitive skills efficiently. Furthermore, the tasks such as Math and Arts, these are required more times on practices to be sophisticated as well as encourage them to be responsible on their duties. Finally, children who always do their homework actively are advantageous on exam preparation in advance because they will be familiar with the lessons and tend to spend less time to remember things when the test is coming. On the other hand, some people argue that it would be better for children to spend the rest of the day after finishing classes by recreation themselves. This circumstance will allow them to have more quality time to spend with families or do other activities in which they interested in, such as playing sports and practicing musical instrument. These activities will allow them to have deeper relationship with family members and discover their hidden talents outside the academic schemes. Moreover, regarding to not having homework after class, this will give kids an opportunity to catch up on their quality sleep since because they have been at school since early morning and stay up there for 8 hours long every day. Therefore, the free time after class is very crucial for enhancing with balance lifestyle. In conclusion, homework can benefit for children through developing academic aspects, however, this can also be combined with other significant activities. In my opinion, I believe teachers should handle works for children properly with no overload work to allow them doing other interesting activities in terms of fulfillment their desires and getting refreshment in both physically and mentally.
