Here we have the blueprints illustrating a student dormitory between 2010 and now. It's clear that the building itself has been expanded, as well as the layout of the whole property was adjusted. Some garden space has been cut off. From the plans we could see the first garden plot from the upper east side has been added into the building and became student bedroom, whereas the back garden has been modified into parking spaces to accommodate the increasing number of students and consequentially the parking needs. Other than the gardening space was changed into bedroom at upper east side, the former living room that could be seen in 2010 also has been renovated into student bedroom. The general layout inside the building is also different now from 2010. Coming from the main entrance, there's the hallway. Yet part of the hallway is remodelled into en-suite room now while there is still student bedroom at the end of hallway. The middle part of the building remains mostly the same, except the kitchen in 2010 now is not only for cooking, but also serves as the function of social area. In summary, the building now could accommodate more students and with parking space, and provides more opportunities for students to socializing and enjoy the company of each other.

There is a believe that living in big cities is bad for your health. Those who hold such thought are based on such groundings: First of all, air in big cities is polluted by traffic and industry, which is bad for one’s lung; and the noise can be unbearable which can easily raise one’s blood pressure and heart beats. Further more, living in big cities is expensive. The housing, grocery, transportation, etc... are all more expensive than smaller places, which people have to work hard and long hours to make a living. Last but not least, is the traffic situation, and how frustrated it could be when one is caught up in a traffic while one is heading for an important meeting, what anxiety and frustration it causes! Despite all the advantages mentioned above, I personally still prefer to live in big cities. I would argue that living in big cities makes me happy and therefore is beneficial for my mental health. I love the cultural atmosphere that a big city can provide, the galleries, the museums, the various clubs that I could attend, they fill up my life as well as my soul. Equally important is all the interesting people that I meet in different occasions and events. Communicating with people met other than my immediate surroundings is humbling, fascinating and intriguing. Most of all, what I appreciate the big cities are their diversity, inclusiveness and openness. Being an Asian immigrant woman, I feel mostly welcomed and accepted and belonged living in big cities. In summary, although I do appreciate and enjoy the quieter, simpler and less expansive life that a smaller city could offer, I vote for the social-cultural richness that a big city brings.
