However, by 2004, both trends showed a significant rise. Following this year, the oil price index surpassed the food index, reaching a peak of about 70 dollars per barrel in the middle of 2006. Studying in a foreign country is becoming prevalent as it is known to promote more opportunities for young students. Some educators believe that engaging teenagers to study abroad as international students are considered beneficial for all students. This essay will discuss that the positive impacts do in fact take precedence over the drawbacks of international student exchange and will provide explanations in the ensuing paragraphs. One of the several benefits of allowing young students to study abroad is that they will have more opportunities to learn and adapt to different cultures and languages. As students would be communicating with diverse groups of people, their social skills will be more developed, thus will prepare them for what to expect in their adulthood. Additionally, foreign students can meet new friends beyond their circle that would potentially enrich their personal development. In job interviews, for instance, multilingual people who can speak different languages usually have an edge over other candidates as they are more flexible to work globally. Hence, studying abroad provides several learning opportunities for most students. However, there are also certain drawbacks to sending students to another country to study. Firstly, some exchange programs do not fully cover the expenses of their students which are beyond their scholarship agreements. In the event of unfortunate events like illnesses and accidents, for example, schools do not provide funding for their medical expenses, thus will put greater financial strains on parents who are working from their home country. Moreover, students may also experience culture shock and may encounter racism, as there are instances that cultural diversity might impose some people to inflict violence of terror or bullying on people from a foreign land. For these reasons, parents usually weigh several considerations before allowing their children to study abroad. In conclusion, this essay has discussed that the benefits of allowing students to study abroad do in fact outrank the given drawbacks due to the fact that students will be able to develop their social skills and would learn to adapt to various cultures that will mold them to become competitive adults in the future.
