The bar chart below shows the number of houses built per year in two cities, Derby and Nottingham, Between 2000 and 2009. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

You should write at least 150 words.

The graphic illustrates the number of houses built per year in the cities of Derby and Nottingham, between 2000 and 2009. In the chart Derby is usually the city that has more houses built per year during this 9 years while Nottingham has the lead just in 3 years. During the years 2000 and 2001, Nottingham had more houses built per year than Derby, with an average of 54, while, in the 5 years that follow, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, Derby had an outstanding performance, keeping for 5 year straight the lead. 2007 was a very important year for nottingham, especially coming from an year, 2006, where the average of house built was close to 0; in fact during 2007 nottingham,for the first time in the chart, went over the 150 house built per year while Derby maintained the same average of the previous years. The years that follow, Derby registered more than 250 houses built in 2008 and more than 300 in 2009, while Nottingham presented an average of less than 10 houses built in 2008, but it reached the 250 in 2009.

Some people believe that one of the best ways to reduce crime is to increase the years of staying prisons.While , others think that there are various other ways by which we can reduce the crime. In my opinion, although giving longer prison sentences is one of good ways to reduce crime, this is not the only way to stop crime. The following essay will give a detail explanation of both the views and my opinion. On the one hand , the public believe that reduction of crime rate can decrease by giving longer prison sentences because by doing this prisoner will realise the importance of family. For example, if a person has a family and the period of living in prison gets extended, he will never be able to see his loved ones and ,moreover, if he is from a poor financial background, then his family will suffer a lot especially his children , their education will be siezed in between and due to that fact, they will commit the same crime. Therefore , it is important for a prisoner to realise these outcomes which can only be done by increasing years of prison and that will result into reduction in the rates of crime. On the other hand, some of the population believe that there are alternative solution by which the crime rate can be decreased and there are numerous ways by which people can do it. Firstly, the government should find out the root cause of problem. For an instance, the main reason behind why the rate of crime is increasing is poverty. In countries like India , Africa, people are suffering from a huge financial issues and thus , they do not money to earn a living and this is the reason why they do robbery and the only solution to such kind of problems is that the government should provide funds to impoverished families so they can spend the money in good and education. Secondly, the country should teach men to respect to avoid rape cases and this can be done providing good level of education and manners. To conclude, I opine that, extending the prison sentences is not the only solution as there are many other solutions such as reducing poverty which will lead to reduction in robbery cases and furthermore, teaching men to respect women to avoid rape cases.
